I don’t know if it’s just me, but when I’m hungry, I can’t concentrate, much less study or pay attention in class. Especially when I have a lot of classes in one day, hunger is a major distraction. Whether I’m in Communication 103 at 8 A.M. or in Journalism & Media Studies 200 at 2 P.M., the thought of spices and ingredients of a savory meal melting on my tongue consumes my mind and causes my stomach to growl like a ferocious animal. It distracts others. It prevents me from paying attention in class.
The good thing is that even if I forget to eat breakfast or lunch, SDSU has an ocean of ‘restaurants’ and food markets where I could easily buy something to munch on. From Panda Express to Olive Oil gourmet sandwiches, campus is decorated with diverse options where one can eat a delicious meal. I was a little worried about the topic of eating at school because I have recently become vegetarian and want to be vegan someday. Knowing that my food selection would be limited, I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to have a full nutritious meal if I needed one at school. Luckily for me, I attend a university where ‘food markets’ take place Thursday every week! During the farmers’ market, food stands of all types set up near the library and sell snacks and meals. One of the stands specializes in vegetarian and vegan cuisine, which made me feel very fortunate. It’s hard to walk by the smell of grilled vegetables and food and not stop to get something. Everything is sold at a reasonable price and is prepared in a short amount of time. I love food, and thankfully, SDSU has made eating healthy and tasty food on campus a possibility.
